The Jesus Gay Marriage Interview Has Sparked Debate

By Claudine Hodges

When two people fall in love, they often want to cement that love in something more permanent. This is often by way of getting married. Gay marriages are exactly that, except the situation involves two lovers of the same sex. Unfortunately not all states in the USA agree that this is legal and have banned same sex marriages. According to Elton Jon's Jesus gay marriage interview, this matter must be looked into in more depth.

Legislation with regards to this type of marriage varies per state. Equal marriages were only introduced in the 21st century during the first decade. Over time, each state has revised their human rights legislation and amended accordingly to include same sex marriages to be recognised legally. It has now been recognised in at least 34 states in the USA.

Countries around the world have started paying closer attention to human rights and the gay community are no exception. There is an outcry for equal rights among the gay community. This issue also effects many religious organizations as well as social and political and civil rights associations. The main effect is the benefits that these couples may not be entitled to in the case of states with it is not legalized. This discriminates against the homosexual couple.

A legal union can have a lot of benefits for the couple. The psychological and physiological benefits are well documented in research. Quality of life improves because of the security such a union brings to a relationship. The intimacy provides a platform for sharing all the ups and downs of life, and couples cope better in times of crises as opposed to those not in such a relationship.

Marriages are solemnized in a civil ceremony but are also conducted in certain religious locations or churches. It all depends on the stance that the specific religion takes on this issue. Some groups will allow same sex marriages. The ceremony is exactly the same as a heterosexual wedding, and be anything from a simple civil ceremony to a lavish wedding reception.

Same sex marriages do experience a few issues. One important issue is parenting and the adoption process. Research has shown that children benefit emotionally and psychologically from having parents who are in a stable loving relationship. The union, therefore, cements that love between two people providing children with the security that their parents also love them. Gay couples have shown to be fit to be parents and research has not disproved that children in this family are at any disadvantage.

Religion is also an issue that comes up in discussion and there are many different ideas on what is right and wrong. Some religions completely forbid heterosexual marriages and others are open to it. Other religions seem to be fairly silent or nonchalant on the topic.

Gay marriages are not uncommon in the USA. Most couples go on to live a happily married life, celebrating many anniversaries together. However, the USA still has work to do in some states to legalised same sex marriages. Perhaps in the near future, these states will amend their legislation and afford couples in their state the opportunity to spend a life together.
