Good Read On Speed Dating Los Angeles

By Aimee Schwartz

Speed dating is a formalized but not common process which is aimed at making people meet a large number of new people and matching them at the end. It has its origins in the Jewish culture where it was a way of single people meeting and marrying. Some people feel that this practice has some obvious advantages compared to other meeting places such as bars. Speed dating Los Angeles events are therefore becoming more popular in various countries.

This practice is convenient for single people because everyone participating is out to meet someone and thus nobody can feel like they are really out of place. It saves time as people are placed into different age groups in order to enhance their compatibility; in addition to this, the event is designed in such a way that introductions are not necessary. Unlike many meeting venues, people will have enough time to talk comfortably.

The thought of rejecting someone to their face is dealt with as the match making process is done after the event is over. To avoid a participant getting stuck with another for too long, the organizers have time limits for the sessions. There are couples that find out that they are good for each other earlier in the events and they are allowed to sit together until it comes to an end.

On the other hand, the feedback concerning the matches is delayed and the participants must wait for a few days to get it. Most speed dating events do their matching at random and the participants will have a chance to meet different types of people that they might not normally meet in a club. This eliminates the non-verbal cues that people use in bars to select each other before talking.

For these events, advance registration is required for both men and women. The parties are rotated to short series of meetings lasting from three to eight minutes depending on the organization controlling the event. At the end of each session, the person in charge makes a signal such as ringing a bell or whistling for switching of participants to take place.

At the end of the event, the participants submit their list of the people that they would prefer to give their contact information to. The organizers then forward the contact information to them in case a match occurs. However, the same information cannot be exchanged during the short dates to avoid the possibility of having to reject another participant to their face.

Requirements of speed dating usually vary with the organizers with many events targeting specific communities such as the LGBT people, polyamorists and Christians. Graduate student events are the most common because young single people are eager to meet their life partners and settle down. They mainly take place in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.

A certain study shows that most participants select their matches within the first three seconds of meeting indicating that the first impression counts. Furthermore, issues such as religion, lifestyles and previous marriages hardly play a key role as expected. With advancement in technology, this form of dating is also there but has a disadvantage of people not actually meeting.
