Dance Talent Competitions And Shows On Television

By Karina Frost

Movement, in all its forms, is and has always been a favorite hobby and past time for children and adults. While some children take lessons from an early age, others either learn in adulthood, or not at all. For those with experience, there are often a number of different dance talent competitions. Whereas, while there are some competitions for beginners, the skills required, and prizes offered are quite slim in comparison.

Most of these competitions and contests require that individuals be separated into different groups by age, style or experience. Even those that encompass all styles often have separate categories. One competition in which many different styles can be found are those like Do You Think You Can Dance and America's Got Talent.

All have different rules and guidelines. Whichever competition one finds oneself in, it is important to follow those listed at all times. Otherwise, dancers can be faced with the possibility of disqualification

It is also important to be creative in style as well as choreography. When a dancer has style with a sense of self and self-confidence, one can often go quite far in a contest. Whereas, individuals lacking either great choreography or self-confidence often do not make it to the semi-finals or finals.

Perusing blogs and other publications can often be a good way to obtain information about contests as well as information for routines. Other publications like magazines and newsletters can often offer even more information on the topic, including different summer camps and festivals related to movement.

When blogging, it can often be easy to have discussions and communicate on forums. In doing so, individuals can acquire a great deal of information which can help one succeed in a contest, and in life. As there are often hundreds, if not thousands of people subscribing to different ones, the internet has become a mega source for good quality information on contests and other events.

It is important when posting to blogs, or commenting on other articles to be as kind and professional as possible. If not, most Administrators and owners will often provide a warning, which if not followed can lead to being banned from a website, either for a short period, or, for life. As such, it pays to be kind, especially when communicating with others online.

To get the most out of dance related information, it is probably best to sign up on multiple dance blogs. In doing so, individuals can find a variety of information that might otherwise be available in traditional learning formats. It is also important to rehearse several hours a day if an individual truly wants a chance at winning a competition.

When Do You Think You Can Dance might be considered a reality show due its single focus, America's Got Talent is more of a variety show. As such, it is important to recognize when dancers are on these shows, that it is truly a calling. Most often dance contests are going to be a more locally based event than one which spans across time and space.
