A Look At PA Clothing Donation

By Frank Sullivan

If you are intent on giving back to your local community but are having a hard time deciding where to begin, you can look around for stores that will take your old clothing items. PA clothing donation stores offer an excellent way to help the unfortunate while getting rid of stuff you do not need anymore. Do your research to find the best place to go.

Jeans and khaki pants that no longer fit you will make excellent items to start with. If the hem is a bit ragged near the top of the pants, this is still generally considered fine. Small imperfections in the clothing will not be a deal-breaker, and anyone who wears the clothes during the cold dark winter months will simply want to be warm.

T-shirts with graphics and images on them will always be considered popular by sports fans. If you have a t-shirt of your favorite baseball or football team in your closet but no longer want it, consider donating it. Sports jerseys that have the names of players on the back will be scooped up by teenagers who want to show them off to friends.

Leather belts that no longer fit you can be placed in a bag and taken to the store of your choice. Individuals who do not have a lot of money but who need to do on a series of job interviews will be very pleased to have access to have a nice leather belt. Both black and brown leather belts will be fine choices depending on the shoes and pants they will be worn with.

If the clothes you are planning on donating are very ragged, run them by the manager when you first arrive. While there is nothing wrong with very small imperfections, very large holes in the fabric may be rejected. The manager on duty will be able to do a once-over and let you know if the store does indeed want your used clothing.

Shoes might also come in handy in certain situations. Many poor people have trouble getting their hands on a good set of shoes that will serve them well. If you have decided to buy a new pair of brand name shoes and want to get rid of your old ones, consider donating them to a good cause. Even shoes that are a bit worn on the inside will still be an improvement for some people.

Some donation centers, especially ones that are affiliated with religious groups, might have odd hours. Call the store in question to see when the best time is to take your items in. During the holiday season, you might have to wait a few minutes for your items to be looked over. The holidays are a time when items are most likely to be donated to others in need.

You will ultimately want to find a donation center that has a history of helping people in the community. Once you have become involved with giving back, you will likely continue to do it. The sense of satisfaction cannot be matched anywhere else.
