Does being popular mean you're far better than the rest?

By Natasha Harris

This is a quite interesting question. Most people think that there is everything good having popularity. Numerous children are dreaming about becoming popular. However does it actually imply better? Is it all it's cracked up to be? Quite a few popular people may tell you that it isn't. They do not recognize who their actual friends are usually, and a few of the most popular individuals which you already know are very lonely. There is a lot of pressure involved as well. Several compare it to living underneath a microscopic lens.

Of course popularity has many good advantages too. It's good when you are well known and popular in your community. Still, a person's popularity does not define who they are. For a person who becomes popular it can at first be very exciting and filling. After a while it can just become downright stressful. This is not the meaning or the purpose in life at all.

Popularity is not bad but it isn't easy either. For example a public figure has to be in shape, have security, and deal with the paparazzi and the tabloids. Many times popular people will find that they have very little time for their family, friends and for what is most important not excluding themself. When a person becomes popular the person's activities and even their personal life seems to be on display.

It may seem like everyone will try to get gossip not only about the person's life in present but from their life in the past too. Relationships can unravel, and friends can be lost. Plus, you can be hurt by people whom you thought you could trust but could not. Then there is jealousy involved too. Sometimes popularity is just not worth the price that one has to pay to achieve the status. Everything should be moderate, and excessive is not good.

Whether or not popularity will be good will depend upon how the person themselves handles the situation. Sometimes it is not others but one's self that is destructive or untrustworthy. Using popularity as a weapon is never good, and nothing good can come back to that person. If you find yourself gaining in statute don't hurt other people. Don't leave the friends who were there for you when you were just an ordinary person with an everyday life. Never forget where you come from, because life has a funny way of reminding you when you do.
