When I Was Looking For A Baptism Dress, I Found A Fantastic One

By Raheem T. Schoen

My daughter was anxiously looking forward to her eighth birthday for lots of reasons, but mostly because she was going to be baptized, so I wanted to do my best to help her find the most beautiful baptism dress she had ever seen. I know that some people have talented relatives who make gorgeous dresses, but no one in my family possesses those specific skills, so I knew that we would have to go shopping in order to find the right dress for her.

Rather than just drive around, hoping to stumble across a store that sold white dresses for eight year old girls, I determined to look online first in order to see what was available in terms of stores where she could try on dresses before we made a purchase. I am definitely glad that I went this route, since before long I found the website for an awesome local store that sold some gorgeous white dresses and at very reasonable prices!

When I picked up my daughter from school the following day, we drove over to this store so she could take a look at the dresses and try some on, and the whole way over she talked about how happy she was about being baptized, which brought tears to my eyes. When we pulled up to the store, I had to compose myself a bit, but my daughter got out of the car and bounded straight in through the front door.

I followed her in, and we started browsing through the racks, which took quite a while since they had a great selection, and after my daughter tried several of the dresses on, we both fell in love with one particular dress. We bought the dress, and seeing the look of pure joy on her face made my heart want to burst with pride.

The baptism day was an extraordinary experience for all of us, with a lot of extended family that came from out of town just for the occasion, and we all enjoyed the music, speakers and the baptism ceremony as well. When it was over, I was a little sad that this milestone in my child's life was already behind us, but then I looked at my family and realized that my other daughter would be turning eight in a couple years and that I could go through it all again, only this time, I would know precisely where I was going to find a dress!
