Can This Be The Second Coming

By Leticia Jensen

If you are asking 'Can this be the Second Coming' based on an event you've witnessed or heard about, you'll be glad to know that the answer is in the Bible. Scripture tells us quite a bit about the Lord's return. It also warns us not to be deceived by false claims.

Luke, in his gospel, quotes Jesus as saying that He will be like lightning, visible from one end of the sky to the other. He also says that His followers should not go running after people who are claiming to have found the returned Lord. This will be an arrival that is hard to miss, highly visible and very powerful. Don't worry that you will be in one place while Jesus is in another.

There are other clues in the personal accounts of those who have been to Heaven and returned to tell the tale. You might not believe these accounts or even the Bible, but if you're looking for a return of Jesus, which is what this is all about, you must believe something. Eyewitness accounts, which are acceptable in a court of law, are our best sources of information.

People who've gone to Heaven had no trouble recognizing Jesus. Like His disciples during the time between His resurrection and His ascension, they see Him as He was on earth, with nail holes in His hands and love in His eyes. He told his followers that His sheep know His voice, and so it is. Only those who have not surrendered their lives to Him and believe His Word will mistake another for the Lord.

If you have your health, food to eat, and live without fear, the tribulation probably has not begun. That means you have at least seven years before you need to worry about missing out on the Lord's return. There are what some consider early warning signs: wars, earthquakes, volcano eruptions, droughts and famines, floods and fire. Strange weather is another sign. However, the seven 'last plagues' definitely are not going on.

If someone seems to be responsible for a miracle, this is not proof of divinity. The Bible tells us that many will come to claiming to be the Christ and performing signs and wonders. Those who take care not to be deceived must understand prophecy about the return of the Lord. The miracles of Jesus were example of His love as well as proof of His identity. He pointed to the blind seeing and the lame walking when disciples of John the Baptist came asking if He was the awaited one, but he did his miracles on the basis of need, not as an attraction.

Jesus was neither a world or local leader. He spoke of the heavenly kingdom and of spiritual riches, but He had no palace or working capital. He had twelve faithful followers, not a royal court. If a man comes with worldly power, a thirst for renown and riches, and a disregard for the poor, he will only deceive those interested in worldly things.

Is this the second coming is a question that many have today. The answer is not yet. Read the Bible to find out more, both Old Testament prophecies and New Testament accounts. See how Jesus comes back in the clouds, as told in the Book of Revelation.
