Top Responsibilities Of A Church Building Committee

By Beryl Dalton

Any activity requires planning. Regardless of how small it is, somebody or a group needs to head the cause in order to see it come to fruition. Those individuals who have the skills and willingness to head the venture are those same people who play vital roles in the success of the activity. They can be anyone within the community.

For a community of believers, building a church is necessary. This is the place where they gather, express their faith and worship God along with the other members. The construction of the place is so delicate that a church building committee has to be organized.

They are composed of different people, usually around five to seven, each having their own specialty. These main members can hire their own subcommittees who can help them do their job. The creation of this group is geared to ensure that there is no money wasted in the construction and that it is created with the supervision of the head pastor or priest. Here are the committees major responsibilities.

Overseeing the project. The only means to evaluate whether everything is going according to planned is if somebody checks it regularly. This the main responsibility of the committee chairman. He or she heads the group and has the basic knowledge in every aspect of the venture.

Creation of project design. After the detailed planning, the actual putting out of idea follows. This is where the technical skills of architects and engineers come in. They provide the details of the building process and creates a blue print of the place. This is then shown to the whole group for approval. Things that have to be changed or improved will be addressed during the gathering.

Handles the financial needs of the project. Out of the things gathered from the design, the financial management team will then create or review the budget plan for the project. In here, they assess whether the current amount of money that the group has is enough to pay for their initial expense. They also create a sort of projection for the additional expense needed on the project.

Informing the whole community. Of course, the members of the church cannot be left out. You have the right to know and the committee makes sure that you do. They release announcements on bulletins informing the people about the progress of the construction. Any updates are relayed to the public for transparency.

Getting funds. There are times when the money received from the collection during mass or gathering is not enough. In this case, the committee finds ways to raise funds by organizing some activities. It could be in a form of a bazaar, an exhibit and the like. All the amount gained in here will be used for the project.

They head the necessary improvements in your house of prayer. This does not mean though that they can do it all by themselves. Get involved in activities that can help forward their cause. As a member of the community, your can do a lot. Be service and look for opportunities where you can use your skills to help them.
