Understanding The Beliefs Of SDA Church Arcata

By Elizabeth Smith

When attending a service as a visitor at any church, it is important to know the denomination and beliefs. At the SDA Church Arcata, the belief system is that of the Seventh Day Adventists or SDA. According to the religion, the Bible is the only source of truth. As such, there are no additional texts used whether in worship services or Sunday school.

The church considers the denomination to be part and parcel to that of the protestant conviction and the Bible as pertaining to the practice and faith of Christians. In particular, Seventh Day Adventists hold twenty fundamental beliefs which can be separated into six categories with regards to doctrines related to last day events, the Christian life, the church, salvation, man and God.

God is always architect in all teachings of the church. In fact, God is not only architect of the world, but of grace and intimate and infinite love which is eternal and everlasting. As a result, it is believed that when Christians work to build a strong relationship with God, God will in return provide restoration and faith to humanity.

In most cases, Seventh Day Adventists believe that God is Love, though also a higher power of splendor and mystery. In addition, those in the faith believe that powers which God possess are well beyond those of human kind. At the same time, it is clear that God has a way of reaching out to those in need.

Often considered intimate and infinite, the church believes those in tune with God will spend an eternity strengthening and building a relationship with the Divine, also known as the Holy Trinity being that of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In addition, the belief that sin might distance an individual from God, is shared with the belief that forgiveness is a gift for all those whom ask for same.

While some denominations consider the Bible, the only word of God, others use additional texts. While this is the case, the SDA recognizes that there were many different authors, insights and perspectives of the writers whom transcribed the different books of the Bible. At the same time, the message behind the pages is seen as a message of inspiration, insight and salvation for all people, past, present and future.

When it comes to Jesus, the church believes that God, the Father sent Jesus, the son to reach out and spread the message of God, and love to all people, past and present. As such, like many other Christians, Seventh Day Adventists believe that Jesus became human, lived as one of mortal man, then died so that believers could live an eternal life. The church also believes in the second coming, a time when Jesus will come to take God's children home.

Ultimately, Seventh Day Adventists believe that the Holy Spirit resides within the hearts of those whom believe in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. While this is the case, it should be noted that the Holy Spirit represents the light and love of Christ in all who believe in the immortal Jesus, as being the one and only Son of God. As such, comfort, compassion, guidance and understanding are always present within the hearts of those whom believe.
