Reportage Photography For Weddings

By Charlie Michaels

Choosing a photography technique for a wedding determines how the wedding day will be remembered for years to come. Though there are still requests for conventional wedding photography, the demands for such have significantly lowered these days. Most betrothed couples in Singapore now prefer a more daring approach in photography style. They prefer to have pictures that show the real happening in their wedding rather than photos that see them and their visitors posing and smiling for the camera. There may be times in the wedding that they are not aware that their photo is being taken, but that's exactly how they want their pictures taken.

This kind of wedding photography is known as photojournalism or wedding reportage photography. Many wedding photographers in Singapore now offer this kind of photography. The couples don't have to stop and pose for the camera every time. Rather, the photographer just clicks and takes pictures with or without the knowledge of the couple or their guests. With photojournalism, photographers are able to capture the real ambience of the event with natural-looking pictures.

Because the couple and their guests don't need to pose and give their best smile in front of the camera, the photographer can shoot genuine emotions. There may be times, though fleeting, when the father of the bride sheds a tear when he hands his daughter over to her new husband, when the groom steals an admiring glance at his bride, or when the sleepy flower girl tries hard to keep awake during the ceremony. These are the moments that make the wedding heartfelt, and must be captured on camera.

Conventional photography is still practiced these days. It is even nearly required when it comes to taking wedding pictures. The photographer may ask the bride and the groom to pose with each other before and after the wedding. Or the photographer may likewise ask the entire family to pose with the newlywed couple right after the ceremony. These shots and some more are usually the must-take shots in the photographer's list, but the rest of the images are mostly unscripted.

A singapore wedding photographer normally offers couples a choice between traditional and photojournalism photography. Many couples, however, prefer a combination of the two styles. They like a reportage style of photography so they can experience again the experience through pictures, but they also want a traditional photography style just for formality.
