Tips For Jewish Interfaith Marriage

By Sandra West

When deciding to spend the rest of one's days together and one partner is a Jew, then it is time to learn a bit about a religion foreign to the other partner. A Jewish interfaith marriage has become more and more in the norm today as couples meet online and decide to tie the knot. Learning about another religion or one such as this, is not a problem as there are many sites on the Internet that will go into detail about varying subjects.

There are areas that one should accustom oneself to such as learning a bit about the dietary laws included in this religion. For many it is a life long practice so it is important that these laws are kept and met especially seeing as there will be Jews on the wedding list that do practice and adhere to these laws. It is not a difficult subject and there are certain basic guidelines that must be met.

Food for one can seem like a problem as there are many rules to follow when practicing this faith. It may not be important for the Jewish partner but for some guests that will be invited, these rules will have to be applied. Kosher laws or dietary laws are extensive and it is no wonder that stress can creep in when regarding the many laws that govern this part of the Bible.

No need to worry though as a Rabbi will be able to give one some idea as to what this will entail and will have options as to caterers that can be called upon to assist. For one, only certain meat can be eaten and to capture this in a nutshell, animals that chew the cud and have cloven hooves may be consumed. This narrows things down a bit with regard to choice.

It is best to discuss these options with a caterer and one will also want to ensure that the caterer has been authorized to cater foods as required by the local Beth Din or House of Judgement, literally translated. This is a body of members that ensure all legalities governing a community are adhered to in strict alignment with the laws of the Torah or Bible. A caterer will carry a certificate allowing them to produce foodstuffs ordained by this governing body.

It is best to discuss these options with a caterer who will allude to the laws that must be upheld. An interfaith Rabbi is a fountain on knowledge and will have a list of caterers for one's choosing. The dietary laws are not that complicated and many do find that they will want to incorporate them into their daily lives.

Another dish that is allowed is Sushi. This is very popular amongst Jews and will definitely get a stamp of approval by all guests attending. It is a must do.

The best place to start is on the Internet. There is just so much to learn and many sites cater exactly just for this. The Internet will go in depth into any queries one may have and it is a great way to learn a bit more about a different faith and one that one is marrying into.
