Haiti Mission Disaster Management Giving Hope

By Amanda Bean

The state stands in the Caribbean region, sharing the island of Hispaniola with the Republic of Santo Domingo. Being the poorest country in the Western region with over eighty percent of its population living below the poverty level, this state seems to have lost its place in the global hemisphere. The Haiti mission plan by international representative and United Nation sought to bring the country back to its feet.

Each disaster that befell this country left it with unforgotten scars and some are regarded as the most dangerous events in the state. The catastrophes caused the death of many people and destruction of a lot of property. If you do a proper search on the internet about the disasters that hit this country, you will realize that the dangers actually took place within a circumference of 100KM leaving the other places barely untouched.

Most of the international bodies like the Government of the United States, the United Nation UNEP, the Red Cross troops, European Commissions and many other governmental and non-governmental organizations took part in addressing the problems that these people faced. The dangerous and terrific earth tremor that took place in this state left so many people hopeless and homeless as well. Most of the representatives therefore who came to this state had an intention of addressing the material and social needs of people affected by this problem.

They made sure that these people got enough food and water supply wherever they were. In addition, the missionary team provided them with temporary shelters where they could lay their head as renovation progressed. The crew also took the initiative of addressing matters of hygiene among the people.

There was, in addition, the need to have a control over disaster vulnerability and poverty in this state. For this reason, the United Nations Environmental Program came up with a program by the name the Haiti Renovation Initiative. There is hope that the plan will help to restore the ecosystem of the country and bring and bring about an improvement in the general well being of the people and the state at large.

The series of disasters that took place in this country left a lot of waste that required proper management. Essentially, the debris requires collection, sorting, treatment and proper disposal. The team that came to help in the management of disasters, therefore, became an integral part in disaster management. Most non-governmental organizations became part of this disaster management program.

The most common debris discovered after the disaster took place were those from buildings and construction sites. The most common forms of the construction materials whose sample report were collected were reinforced concrete structure and the hollow bricks. A collection of unbroken hollowed brinks for reuse took place and the inhabitants took the initiative to collect reinforcing bars as scrap irons.

There is a need to prevent the occurrence of dangers such as this in the future times. This means that the Haiti mission crew, whose task to help in the management of dangers must ask themselves tough yet real life questions and find relevant answers as well. In fact, the people on authority seats should know what to do in order to handle such problems.
