Daily News Reports Increase Child Abduction Awareness

By Nora Jennings

Numerous children have been kidnapped never to be found. No one can ignore the danger. Children are taken from playgrounds, parks and their own neighborhoods. It is good to pay attention to these reports because child abduction awareness can prevent some of these cases of children vanishing.

There was the case of a mom running in to pick up one item at a convenience store in the middle of the day. It was cold so she left her six-year old daughter in the warm car. Yes, she was gone for less than five minutes. It was long enough for an opportunistic pervert to open the car door and disappear with the little girl.

Numerous parents have left a son or daughter in the car in front of the home. They went back to carry out a baby. It only took minutes for the kid to be snatched out of the car.

It happens faster than imaginable. In more than one case a little girl starts home from school with friends. She disappears somewhere between school and her home.

Every day seems to dawn on a new kidnapping. Older children can be given instructions on how to obstruct one of these perverts. Do not walk close to a strangers car. Some predators ask for directions and pretend they cannot hear the answer. If the child moves close enough, the stranger can reach out and grab him or her.

Second, if a stranger grabs them, make as much noise as possible to attract attention. Scream, kick and do anything to get away. Third, never listen to what a stranger tells them. The kindest looking woman or man may be a kidnapper.

However, the truth is that children do not always listen to advice. If a stranger asks them to help find a lost kitten, they will be concerned and try to help. An acquaintance they have met while with a parent may offer a ride home.

Precautions are taken. Small children cannot be released from school unless the approved parent or caretaker picks them up. Bedroom windows are closed and locked at night.

Recent cases of girls abducted as teens have been in the news. Some have been held captive for as long as ten years. They may be threatened with terrible retribution if they try to escape.

Any witness to an abduction should call the police right away. Try to memorize or write down the license plate details. Make note of the color of the vehicle and what the abductor looks like.

The legal system seems to be favoring the predator in some cases. A sexual predator will repeat the offense in ninety-nine percent of all cases. A psychiatrist might be brought in to testify that he is rehabilitated.

The reality is that any gambler can place odds on how soon he will abduct and rape another innocent child. Parents and other caretakers may take all precautions to no avail. How many more little ones must be abducted before the laws are revised to prevent the rights of the pervert to supercede the rights of the innocent.
