Discover Total Equality In An Egalitarian Church

By Annabelle Holman

Gender equality is a very hot issue in the world today. Men believe that they are created to rule the world and women only exist to be of assistance to them. Women, therefore, are usually discriminated for simply being women.

Males oftentimes consider themselves superior over females just because they are physically stronger than them. However, they should not take all the blame because the way they act is just in compliance with what the society taught them. Men are taught to be leaders but women can, too. An egalitarian church in Denver recognizes female abilities as much as they do on males.

The egalitarian idea is based on the principle that God created both men and women equally, no matter the order of who was created first, and that they are both human in the eyes of God. Thus, in an egalitarian church, men and women are of equal position and are both allowed to hold pastoral positions. This kind of church exercises total equality among people, overlooking superficial differences like gender, class and race.

What is important for this system is that each and every one is able to contribute his expertise for the betterment of the church itself and eventually for the community. It takes whatever one can offer and makes it useful for the society. They say that two heads are better than one and so combining both genders will result to more productivity.

If one cannot do what he is asked to do, there will be others who can. If a man cannot do this, then maybe a woman can. There are just some areas that women do better in and men should learn to respect that not everything can be done with their muscles.

The thought is that what is best for the society, no matter who gets it done, should be done. Males may have to do most of the physical jobs but that also is not limited for them alone because there are females who are stronger than some of them. The key is accepting what each can do to benefit the society better.

However, many critics say that egalitarians fail to understand the distinction between roles and equality. Though both are equal, each has different roles to keep. For instance, in a family, the husband keeps the role of providing for his family while the wife carries the responsibility of child bearing. Neither is superior because each only fulfills what God designed them for.

In family matters, authority is usually bestowed upon males. However, wives should not just keep silent and do whatever her husband tells her to do. It would be best to air out your opinions and do the decision making together, weighing carefully the pros and cons. When you do it together, you live a more harmonious life.

The society should acknowledge women power as they are nowadays empowered to do things they were not allowed to do before. Slowly, they are gaining names in the industry and in business. Equality should be fully achieved in order to make the world a better place to live in.
